Fashion Emergency II – Accessorize
Ok, firstly: I have the very best most spectacular friends and family. Really, I can’t thank you enough for all the comments, on the blog, on facebook, and in your emails. I had no idea you would so enjoy chiming in on my outfits!
While I do appreciate all the comments along the lines of “hot” and “smokin” I must admit – this is not really the look I’m going for: elegant, sophisticated. I know I’m smokin, I don’t need to advertise it to everyone at my brother’s wedding.
A galvanizing comment was made privately by my Auntie: “Who says you can’t go shopping? I want to talk to this person.” Sheepishly I dragged my friend Annika all over Williamsburg last Saturday looking for something that wasn’t made in a sweatshop that I would look great in and feel good about wearing. Not optimistic! But low and behold, the very last shop we wandered into had a beautiful vintage dress that fit perfectly, felt flattering, and seemed like the right vibe. I bought it. It was affordable.
And so now the accessorizing begins. Here’s my idea: I could craft a wrap of cashmere sweater scraps and chiffon with silver details to match the dress: something that would just wrap around the shoulders and attach with a button or tie. Then some dark stockings, perhaps in a color that coordinates with the sweater scraps, and some ankle strap metallic shoes with a low heel. If there is enough, I can even make some sleeves for more warmth. I want to break up the black with some other dark neutral colors or maybe something like a jewel toned teal or green.
What do you think?
Thank you!!!!
- and the plain black pumps
- here with the little wrap MM loaned me
- and I feel like it fits well, I like the length
- it feels super comfortable
- the tag said '80's but I feel like it is '50's via '80's

love it!!!!! It looks so perfect on you!
Now accesories, the muted silver wrap looks good, I also like the ideaof the scraps wrap. My only concern with that would be the detail on the dress and the textures clashing. I can’t see it that clearly, I’m looking on my phone, will look tonight from home.
I like the dress with michele’s jacket (from the side ) how does it look from the front?
I like wrap too, but will scraps make it look too crunchy? I’m in the country this week end till the election working for Barack. –xx
You did it! The cut looks great on you. The jacket looks really good in the photograph. I think scraps will de-elegant the look. Yes on the dark stockings. Maybe silver accessories will give you the umph you are looking for. You have the outfit now, so you can play with the other stuff and decide at the last minute. Careful about overdoing it. Congrats. xo
lovely dress callie. perfect little jacket. now it’s about the perfect hosiery!
i am certain that i have nothing as good to add into the mix. see you in days!!!!!!!!
Hi Callie-
You look terrific. Because the dress hits below the knee, high heels are optimal for leg flattery… making sure you can comfortably walk and lounge al day in them. If you do an ankle strap, it should be dainty so as not to shorten your leg. The more ankle and top of the foot visible, the longer the leg. I love the idea of a scrap wrap. I can visualize it just draping over shoulders, sort of cap-sleeve in drape and falling to an empire waist length. That way you get to show off a little skin on your arms (elegant) and highlight that enviously tiny waist and ribcage you’ve got. I’d also go with a bold and chunky silver bracelet. Have fun – miss you!
I forgot to add-
If you do dark hoesiery it becomes even more important to expose the arms or wear a light/ shimmery color on the wrap or a very open weave. Otherwise the whole ensemble ends up feeling heavy. Weddings are a happy time. The wrap would modernize and personalize your look:)
